Early Childhood cohort

We will start accepting applications for an Early Childhood cohort that will start in the fall of 2007 in the near future. The purpose of the cohort will be to increase the number of 'highly qualified' early childhood bilingual teachers in Lake and McHenry counties. The cohort will be located in Lake County and will provide training, resources, and support to individuals who wish to become certified ECE teachers. The academic program will lead to a master's in Literacy Education, and will also meet the requirements for the type 04 early childhood certificate and the bilingual and ESL approvals.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (preferred)
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are already employed by an early childhood care provider.

All participants will be required to pass the Illinois Test of Basic Skills, Target Language Proficiency Test, and Content-Area Test.

Teaching Commitment

Participants must agree to work in a Pre-K setting for at least three years in an early childhood center that receives state funding.

More information about the BECCA Program will be available soon.
