About Us

The BECCA Program is a state funded cohort program that is administered by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The Divisions of Early Childhood Education and English Language Learning at ISBE work in partnership with the Illinois Resource Center and Northern Illinois University (NIU) to provide training, resources, and support to bilingual individuals who are committed to the field of early childhood education and who wish to become highly qualified early childhood educators. Successful candidates will earn the M.S.Ed. in Literacy Education with an emphasis in ESL/bilingual education, and meet the requirements for the TYPE 04 Early Childhood certification along with teaching approvals for ESL and bilingual education.

Mission

The primary goal of the BECCA Program is to provide high quality preschool experiences to more children by increasing the number of certified and 'highly qualified' bilingual early childhood teachers in the counties of Lake and McHenry.
