If you are looking for the BTTT (K-8) program, |
How it Works The BECCA Program cohort started in September 2007. Participants will earn an M.S.Ed. in Literacy Education, TYPE 04 teacher certification, and bilingual and ESL approvals. State funds will pay for each participant's full tuition and fees. The primary costs to program participants are those associated with the purchase of textbooks and registering for state certification tests. The academic coursework will be offered by Northern Illinois University at University Center - Grayslake. Each participant will take two courses per regular semester and two courses over the summer. Participants will attend class two evenings per week, usually from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The coursework will be delivered in a cohort model, meaning that all participants will start and finish the set sequence of courses together. The program curriculum consists of 19 courses, which are scheduled to be completed in the fall session of 2010. All participants will be required to pass the Illinois Test of Basic Skills, the Target Language Proficiency Test, and the Content-Area Test for early childhood education. In addition, each participant must agree to teach for at least three years as a 'highly qualified' teacher in a state-funded early childhood program in Lake or McHenry County.
